We don’t pick the circumstances of our life. We do not pick the time of our birth or the family we are born into. We do not pick our talents or strengths or even our disadvantages. We do not pick the color of our skin or our nationality. We arrive “as is” and must face whatever life throws our way.
We can be sure of one thing. Adversity will come whether we are ready or not. We can pick our attitude but not our circumstances. As with Daniel, obstacles will come and how we are prepared for tomorrow’s trouble will determine how we survive.Read more
Peter was one of the 12 apostles. When something needed to be said, Peter usually spoke up first. When something needed NOT to be said, Peter usually spoke up first! But not only was he the first to SPEAK UP, he was also the first to ACT UP! He was always quick to jump into action!
Activators are movers and shakers. They create momentum, and bring a catalytic sense of urgency. Sometimes Activators can be impulsive. Part of the basement of Activator is it can sometimes be quick in the wrong way. Peter needed to learn to look before leaping- and so do we!
One moment in Peter's life where Activator was in full motion was when he walked on water! Matthew 14:24-33 tells the story of Peter jumping at the chance to walk on water when he saw Jesus.
People who are especially talented in the Belief theme have certain core values that are unchanging. Out of these values emerges a defined purpose for their life.
Elijah the Prophet.
The prophet Elijah urged the people of ancient Israel to turn from their sin and return to the true God. He is best known as a man of prayer. James uses Elijah as an example of prayer in James 5:16 "Then pray for each other. Do this so that God can heal you. Anyone who lives the way God wants can pray, and great things will happen.17 Elijah was a person just like us. He prayed that it would not rain. And it did not rain on the land for three and a half years!"
Elijah had such intense Belief that he boldly went into the wicket King Ahab's palace and pronounced judgement that it would not rain until he gave the word! And it doesn't rain for 3 1/2 years!
Elijah's Belief allowed him to be a bold, direct-to-the-point prophet of God. And by speaking prophecies of God- he made fierce enemies!
Hie greatest miracle involved a contest with 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah on Mount Carmel. Elijah called on God and God sent fire to swallow up the sacrifice he prepared.
History always repeats itself. We still have our "Ahabs" and "Jezebels." Our culture has its idolatry...though more subtle than in Elijah's day.
And we still need men and women of God to boldly declare God's message of hope to a dying world. We need men and women of strong Belief to pray!
