Of all the themes, I have had more questions about Adaptability than all the others. Some don't think it sounds "strong." I have to disagree. I work with someone who has extremely low adaptability. When things go wrong (and they WILL go wrong), they do not know how to deal with change in a productive way. People with high Adaptability prefer to to with the flow. They are "now" people who take things as they come and discover the future one day at a time. People high in Adaptability LOVE change! They crave it! They work best in environments that are constantly changing and are spontaneous. This ability to adapt and change is strong because they can work in high pressure situations with a calm. This theme sits in the Relationship Domain, but could easily also fit in the Executing Domain. I believe Adaptability's power is that it can be responsive to an ever changing environment and remain calm, productive and present in the moment.
I live in California, and we have palm trees everywhere! As a matter of fact, about 10 palm trees line my driveway. I look at them every time I come and go from my house. They have a majesty to them. In high winds, they bend, but don't break. We have had many trees fall from the high Santa Ana winds that rush through California. But not one of our palm trees has. Their strengths comes from their ability to remain unfazed by the swirling winds.
Adaptability also makes me think of a river. Water rushes down the side of the mountain, bending and twisting along the way...unconcerned of obstacles. With every change, the water keeps flowing- able to take whatever the mountain has to offer it...because it has a job to do. It must get down the mountain. And no obstacle can detour it's path. It just calmly takes whatever is thrown at it, and continues to be productive.
What a strength! Every team should have someone with high Adaptability on it!
