It's important for parents to explore their children's talents with them. Show you children that they are capable of greatness! Your gift of encouragement is priceless to them.
In Gallup's new book, "Strengths Based Parenting: Developing Your Children's Innate Talents", author Mary Reckmeyer notes six categories of parent behaviors that help to make a difference in their child's development.
Direction: Parents provide direction for their children by verbalizing their expectations, as well as advocate for their children when necessary.
Concentrated Time: Parents listen to what their children want to talk about, devote their time in doing homework, playing games, reading, etc.
Celebrations: Parents plan fun things to do with their children and make sure they celebrate positive experiences with them.
Recognition: Parents give generous praise directly focused on their child's achievements.
Emotional Support: Parents express their love and support their children emotionally, physically, spiritually, mentally and socially.
Structure: Parents provide their children with opportunities for responsibility and intentionally discuss right and wrong decisions.
When I saw the video on "The Backyard Zamboni", I loved how the father helped his son develop the zamboni and then demonstrate how it works!
Everyone has talent. As you think of your own children, do you know what ways your children are uniquely talented? Do you know how they think? What's most important to them?
Your child has something very unique inside them! They have a special way of looking at the world! Their unique perspective has the ability to create new inventions, lead groups of people to better solutions, entertain others, and change the way we think about things!

People who are especially talented in the Belief theme have certain core values that are unchanging. Out of these values emerges a defined purpose for their life.
Elijah the Prophet.
The prophet Elijah urged the people of ancient Israel to turn from their sin and return to the true God. He is best known as a man of prayer. James uses Elijah as an example of prayer in James 5:16 "Then pray for each other. Do this so that God can heal you. Anyone who lives the way God wants can pray, and great things will happen.17 Elijah was a person just like us. He prayed that it would not rain. And it did not rain on the land for three and a half years!"
Elijah had such intense Belief that he boldly went into the wicket King Ahab's palace and pronounced judgement that it would not rain until he gave the word! And it doesn't rain for 3 1/2 years!
Elijah's Belief allowed him to be a bold, direct-to-the-point prophet of God. And by speaking prophecies of God- he made fierce enemies!
Hie greatest miracle involved a contest with 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah on Mount Carmel. Elijah called on God and God sent fire to swallow up the sacrifice he prepared.
History always repeats itself. We still have our "Ahabs" and "Jezebels." Our culture has its idolatry...though more subtle than in Elijah's day.
And we still need men and women of God to boldly declare God's message of hope to a dying world. We need men and women of strong Belief to pray!
