Teach With Your Strengths - Learner
Learner: People exceptionally talented in the Learner theme have a great desire to learn and want to continuously improve. The process of learning, rather than the outcome, excited them.
Learners have a constant desire to learn and improve. They are energized by the journey of learning new facts, the beginning of learning a new subject and mastering skills. (Although- they may become bored once they master something.)
Learning builds their confidence! Learners learn quickly and love to be on the cutting edge of that learning.
This is my #2 theme and I love having this one! I can relate to wanting to be a perpetual and lifelong learner. When someone talks about something new, I almost immediately want to learn more about it. This week I went to visit my great aunt, who has alzheimer's. Although most of her memory is gone, she was able to sing songs with perfect recall. It was fascinating to me. I came home and spent time online learning about memory and brain functions- especially as it relates to alzheimer's.
Those kinds of tangents are something Learners LOVE! Life goes in one direction, and leads you to a place of a new learning adventure!
As a teacher, I am constantly learning new things with my students. Their interests in various things have allowed me to dive into many various learning opportunities. It has also given me the opportunity to teach the things that I have learned. One of the natural outcomes for a learner is to teach.
Are you a Learner? How do you use this Strength in your teaching? What tangents have you been on lately that have led you to interesting places of new learning?
