We have several sayings about the idea of Context. "Taking something out of context" is when someone takes a statement and extracts it from the larger message. "Let me put this into context" is about explaining the event with the setting and broader circumstances.
These statements might both be said from someone with Context as a dominant theme.
The person with high context will look back in time to understand the present. These are people who believe, "This who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
Many times, these amazing people will be history buffs, or will enjoy reading genealogies, biographies, and historical fiction novels. Their Context helps them to look to the past to recognize patterns of thinking and make strong decisions about the present and future.
Do you have Context as a dominant theme? Do you know someone who enjoys keeping records of family histories or the background history of your business? Have you heard them start stories with:
- Here's what we did before...
- In the past...
- At my last position, we...
