Achievers: Take Time To Appreciate What You've Accomplished
My students are doing an in-depth study of the book, "How Full Is Your Bucket?" It is a business book, which is a little different for these middle school students- but they are enjoying it!
I've had many assignments attached to this book. We've written thank-you notes to various teachers and staff on campus, learned about our Strengths, etc. But this week (and for the next 4 weeks following) they are partnered up with another person and are "Strengths Spotting" (noticing all the times that they work within their Strengths.)
They've been writing little notes to "fill each other's buckets". This week they focused on their Top Strength. Today, they got to read all the little notes inside their buckets.
One of my students passed me this note during the day and just said, "Read this."
I was really surprised that she thought of me- as I don't have a bucket out.
But what really touched me was that I've been thinking for the past few weeks that I need more things to do. I don't feel like there's enough on my plate right now. (I get a little antsy when there's not a lot to do.)
Her letter reminded me of all that we've already accomplished!
My thought for my Achiever friends is to stop every once in a while and look back at what you've done. I never do that. I'm always looking forward to what is next and planning the next big thing. Rarely do I take any time to appreciate what has already been done!
Thanks, Emily, for seeing what we've done together and taking time to acknowledge them! What a meaningful gift!
